Stukje uit de Haynes manual. Aangeizen er nu 3 threads zijn met koelproblemen.

As the thermostat ages, it wil become slower to react to changes in water temparature (lazy) Ultimately, the unit may stick in the open or closed position and this causes problems. A thermostat wich is stuck open wil result in a very slow warm-up a thermostat wich is stuck shut wil lead to rapid overheating.

Before assuming the thermostat is to blame for a colling system problem, check the coolant level. if the system is draining due to a leak, or has not been properly filled, there may be an airlock in the system.

If the engine seems to be taking a long time to warm-up based on the heater output the thermostat could be stuck open. dont necessarily beleave the temparature gauge reading some gauges never seem to register very high in normal driving.

If the engine runs hot, use your hand to check the temperature of the radiator top hose. if the hose isn't hot but the engine clearly is, the thermostat is probably stuck closed, Preventing the coolant inside the engine from escaping to the radiator - renew the thermostat. Again this problem may also be due to an airlock.

If the radiator top hose is hot, it means that the coolant is flowing (atleast as far as the radiator) and the thermostat is open.

To gain a rough idea of wether the thermostat is working properly when the engine is warming-up procede as follows.

With the engine completely cold, start the engine and let it idle, while checking the temparature of the radiator top hose. Periodically check the temperature indicated on the coolant temparature gauge if the overheating is indicated switch the engine of immediately

The top hose should feel cold for some time as the engine warms-up, and should then get warm quite quickly as the thermostat opens.

1.8 motor
Thermostaat type WAX Begint met open gaan op 88C en is volledig open op 102C

v6 motor
Thermosttaat type wax Begint met open gaan op 86 tot 90 C en is volledig open op 96C

Diesel
type wax begint met openen op 86 tot 90C en ze weten niet wanneer hij vol open is staat niet in het boek.
