Right lets put this record straight once and for all.
The car in question belongs to Bradley Simpson.
This chap bought a kit direct from Sprintex before we became agents for them.
The kit was fitted by an unknown person and after a few thousand miles the engine expired.
The car then went to coombe motors, where it had a secondhand engine fitted.
They also at the sametime ftted some other heads Bradley supplied which he said were supplied by QED.
Coombe motors phoned me whilst repairing this vehicle and asked me many questions regarding it.
I checked with Paul at QED and he said he hadnt supplied any race spec cams/heads to this chap.
The heads were found to be from a rover 800 kv6, and I told coombe motors to expect problems.
The car however does have piper 270 cams fitted.
Coombe motors got the car running, then Sprintex arranged for this car to come to RSM.
It came to RSM, and on inspection, we found that the ecu wiring had been incorrectly connected and had caused the sprintex ecu to burn out.
Sprintex supplied another ecu, but to be fair, the wiring was also messy due to another piggy back ecu that had been installed.
I had advised to remove the other ecu and put the car as it should be.
The car also had a breathing issue, with excess oil entering the independant MAP sensor.
Mr simpson also bought some Janspeed manifolds, and when these were delivered they were found to be in an unfinished condition, ie welding residue still left in the exhuast ports. and also the fitting of them wasnt quite what it should have been.
When rollered the car made less power with the manifolds on, but Mr Simpson was advised that the car wasnt inperfect health.
I advised Sprintex that the car needed to be stripped down to scratch and started again.
MR Simpson collected the car and we didnt hear from him again for a while.
In the meantime, I have spent alot of time and money on trying to perfect the supercharger conversion by Sprintex.
I will say, that the development work i have done and paid for has not been financially assisted by Sprintex whatsoever.
Sprintex have left RSM with a few unhappy customers.
My ztt and my black Zs had alot of work done to make them reliable on std internals.
However, after getting the cars to become reliable without blowing up, a new problem has occured.
The Chargers now decide to seize after a few thousand miles.
From day one when i first fitted the supercharger kit, I was dubious as to the way the charger lubricated itself, as there is no oil feed to it from the engine. Instead it relies on its own oil bath.
This has now proven to be a totally inadequate way of keeping the charger gearbox correctly lubricated.
I am now no longer in communication with Sprintex, and instead have gone my own way in solving these issues reliably myself.
I would ask that people refrain from slagging off my own cars when they in fact have been the only cars to actually now remain intact.
PTPs car suffered an engine failure at 6k miles and has now been returned to nasp power.
I have heard that Sprintex have a lubrication modification comming, but they continue to say that they have not experienced any failures in Australia, despite emailing me a while back begging me for pistons.
RSM have been as helpful as possible to its supercharged customers, and remain so too.
We have under development a 350bhp supercharged zs program that will be released later in the year.
As for Ross, the car he has was my old zs, which was one of the cars that was redeveloped after failures took place on other zs`s.
The development of the charger is ongoing, however, I am now hopefull that we have now cracked every thing that this project has thrown at us.
The chargers that will be released for sale at a later date, will have no connection with Sprintex whatsoever.
I am hoping that maybe in a years time, when the dust settles, people may give the charger route another go.
I myself wont be selling any charger conversions until i have proven there integrity.
There will be a zt supercharged car, 2 zs charged cars and our high power zs supercharged car running by may.
The zt and zs will be our existing customers cars, and the other two our own.
This will then form a good basis for the cars to be tested in various guises/conditions, and also for people who are genuinely interested to have an unbiast opinion from customers fitted with the new RSM spec charger kit.
It does sadden me to read the horror stories that the chargers have done to the KV6, however, I will point out, that the KV6 can handle the extra grunt given by the charger, when the system is running correctly.
Obviously in the early days of fitment of the sprintex charger, we couldnt detect the other problems with the chargers themselves, as the cars didnt stay running long enough.
Now that both our ZS and ZTT have covered over 30k being charged, we have now come to realise the lubrication defect which we have now corrected.
Unfortunately, more time is now needed to ensure that the new lubrication system works effectively.
Im pleased though, that both engines have stayed together for the 30k and im sure now that the lubrication for the charger has been addressed that these vehicles will stand the test of time.
I hope this post will clear things up regarding the supercharger installs by RSM.
