MG6 to be shown off on April 20th
Posted by AshApril 4, 2009Years of pain staking waiting is about to come to an end for MG fans the world over, as April 20th marks the day that MG will launch its first new car since the unpleasentness of MG-Rovers bankruptcy in 2005.

The first car from MG, is set to be the MG6 which will sit under the current MG7 (nee Rover 75), and will be a hatchback. It is expected that the MG6 will be a hatch version of the Roewe 550, and will also come with a 1.8 Turbo engine, and a 1.8 naturally aspirated DVVT model.

The Roewe 550 is a China Car Times favorite, and it is expected that the MG6 will also become a favorite of CCT’s, probably due to its branding more than anything else. Pictures that are rumoured to be the MG6 have been floating around the net for quite some time.

Pricing of the MG6 is expected to be from 110,100rmb to 160,000rmb when it hits the market.

An MG MPV is also expected to hit the market in 2010, although what an MG MPV might look like, given MG’s sporting heritage, is another matter altogether.

Posted by AshApril 7, 2009A preview of an upcoming MG6 concept have been leaked to the web, and have got CCT in a tizzy.

You see, this is quite possibly the most interesting bit of MG related news in about…. a decade. Future MG’s look set to share their Roewe cousins clothing, but no mention has been made of a Roewe 660 saloon, unless this is set to replace the 550.

One more possibility is that this car is related to the SAIC N1 Concept that SAIC are planning to show at the Shanghai Auto Show soon.

The design of the MG6 is rather interesting, it seems to be going down the fast back design avenue that has worked so well for Jaguar, and other imposing large sedans, but we’re unsure if this MG6 will be a large sedan or rather a compact sedan in which to take on the likes of the Ford Focus, but with a sporting classy edge that MG is famed for.

The concept is set to be MG’s 85th Birthday gift to the world, at least according to one Chinese blogger, and it looks like it will be an impressive gift.

Er is een nieuwe (computer)foto opgedoken van de MG6: een sportief gelijnde 5-deurs liftback op basis van de techniek van wijlen MG ZT (en dus van de Rover 75 en Roewe 550/750) die zich zo op het eerste gezicht goed staande zal kunnen houden naast de Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback en de Skoda Octavia RS.
De MG6 zal op de autotentoonstelling van Shanghai worden gepresenteerd. Het model wordt o.a. leverbaar met een 1,8 liter turbobenzine motor, waarbij gekozen kan worden uit een handbak en een automaat. De prijzen gaan beginnen bij omgerekend 27.000 euro.

SAIC, nu ruim een jaar eigenaar van het Britse label, heeft grootse plannen met de MG6. De Chinezen willen de middenklasser niet alleen in eigen land gaan bouwen, maar vanaf 2011 ook in de voormalige MG Rover fabriek in Longbridge. De export moet het jaar daarvoor al op gang komen.
De naam SAIC werd in de afgelopen weken een paar keer genoemd als potentiële koper van *SLOPEL* (verschrikkelijk lelijk merk die hier op het forum niet genoemd mag worden)/Vauxhall, maar dar gerucht deed men zelf af als lariekoek. Met de MG6 laat SAIC zien ook op eigen kracht een heel eind te kunnen komen.
